Taking My Own Advice: Showing Up and Being More Visible

I spend a lot of my time encouraging clients to be more visible.
Tell people who you are.
Share your story.
Talk about the things you've learned.
Show the human behind the business.
And if I'm honest, I'm not always very good at taking my own advice.
Saying Yes to Being Interviewed
A few weeks ago, Ivy Malik asked if she could interview me for her new series, Off the Record.
My first instinct was to say no.
Not because I had anything to hide. I just prefer talking about my clients, their businesses and their websites. I'd much rather let my work do the talking, or shine a spotlight on someone else, than point it at myself.
But then I realised that I can't keep encouraging other business owners to show up authentically if I'm not willing to do the same.
So I said yes.
Honest, Unfiltered Answers
The interview wasn't polished. I didn't know what she would ask, so I gave honest, unfiltered answers.
I talked about how starting my business was almost an accident, but now I couldn't imagine doing anything different.
And perhaps most importantly, how much of my business has been built by following curiosity and trusting my gut, rather than following a perfect plan.
People Connect With People
It reminded me that people don't connect with perfection.
They connect with people.
The businesses I enjoy following aren't the ones that have everything figured out. They're the ones that share the reality of building something.
The messy bits.
The lessons learned.
The stories behind the scenes.
Taking My Own Advice
So this is me taking my own advice.
Showing up.
Being a little more visible.
And sharing a bit more of the story behind Little Marketing Help.
If you've been hiding a little bit too, consider this your reminder.
People don't just buy what you do.
They buy into who you are.
